New School opening at Whitley Bay

A new class joins Hung Sao Do, at Whitley Bay, with Kathryn Burn as the Instructor. Details of the school can be found in the schools section.

West Denton School, Students of the Year

Congratulations to Sara Swan, Richard Hannat-Thompson (Joint Senior Winners) and Zak Mudie (Junior) for winning their club's Student of the Year for 2009. The three are pictured with other students and Mr Gary Scorer, their instructor.

West Denton 2009

The West Denton school opened in 2009 initially only for members of the Fire Service and their families, although now the club is established, all students are welcome. Contact Mr Scorer for more information.

Hung Sao Do Student of the Year 2009

The Adult Student of the Year for 2009 is Miss Tracey Bivona, who also achieved her Black Belt 3rd Dan this year. Miss Bivona has worked extremely hard to achieve this distinction and is an inspiration to so many club members.

The Junior award went to Josiah Clark and has also worked incredibly hard to achieve his Black Belt this year. Josiah is a very talented martial artist who was unanimously commended by the judges for this award.

Bob Gee Memorial Award 2009

This award is presented annually in the memory of Hung Sao Do's oldest Black Belt, Mr Robert Gee. It is awarded for outstanding effort, commitment or perserverence and this year was deservedly won by Miss Tracey Bivona. It was an emotional moment for all as Mr Stephen Blakey outlined the reasons for the award. Very well done to Miss Bivona who joins an illustrious list of former winners of this award.

New Instructors & Technicians for 2010

A number of new instructors and technicians were presented on 29th November 2009. The technician award is for Senior members of Hung Sao Do, proficient in the technical side, and able to sit on the Black Belt judging panel.

Red Dragon Equipment

This is now ran by Dave Roberts and Michael Hulme (New Hartley), and will be stocking all of the club's clothing with logos, as well as general equipment. For more information look here.

West Denton School

Please note that Hung Sao Do has opened a new school at West Denton Fire Station.

This is being ran by Mr Gary Scorer, but is open to Firefighters and their families only. Training is on Saturday mornings between 10:30 and 12:00.

Membership Renewals

Please note that membership and insurance renewals are due now. Please pay your instructor before the end of January. The cost of the combined membership/insurance has remained unchanged again, at:

£16 for Under 16s

£19 for Seniors (16 and over)

£65 for Instructors

Students of the Year 2008

2007At the November Black Belt presentation seminar, Max Lynn was awarded with the Hung Sao Do Student of the Year 2008.

2006The Hung Sao Do Junior Student of the year for 2008 was also announced, and was awarded to Christopher Jones.

Robert Gee Memorial Trophy Winner, 2008

Bob Gee MemorialThe Robert Gee memorial trophy, was awarded to Rid Kinkhabwala for his outstanding contribution and dedication to Hung Sao Do during 2008.

The trophy is awarded in the memory of Robert Gee, who died a couple of years ago, having achieved his Black Belt in his 80s! He proved that there is virtually nothing you cannot do with the right attitude and perserverance, and Rid is a worthy winner of the award.
